A Different Kind of Influence
Most of the influences in my work have names, books, classrooms, and dates on a calendar.
I studied Life Between Lives with Michael Newton. I trained with Dolores Cannon. I attended classes with Brian Weiss, David Quigley, and Tom Kenyon.
This influence was different.
It came through an experience in 2010 that I did not plan, did not expect, and did not fully understand at the time. The words that came forward were Masters of Light. Later, another name appeared in my mind, Emissaries of Light.
I do not share this story to persuade anyone to use my language or adopt my beliefs. I share it because it changed something important in me. It taught me to make fewer assumptions about where guidance comes from, to ask for the highest intention, and to listen more carefully for what is appropriate in the moment.
October 12, 2010
On October 12, 2010, I was guiding an early session that would later fit naturally with the work now known as QHHT. At that time I was still learning how best to describe and invite the deeper level of awareness that people often call the Higher Self.
The experience I am sharing began after the past life portion of the session, when I called for the Higher Self to come forward. I am intentionally leaving the client's personal story private. What stayed with me was not her history. It was the lesson I received about how to approach guidance.
Before that session I had sometimes talked too much about guides during the pre talk. I had a tendency to use familiar language and to expect a particular kind of presence. Over time I began to realize that this could unintentionally shape what a client expected to experience.
That day I approached the process differently.
Instead of presuming who should come forward, I asked for the one, or the ones, most appropriate to provide insight and assistance for the person in front of me. The name that came forward was Masters of Light.
I normally talk with a client for sixty to ninety minutes before a session. That day we talked for three hours. The first hour was about music, because she was a musician and so am I, and that is a language we both already spoke. Then we spent the rest of it on her. Counting the pretalk, the whole thing ran seven hours.
There was a lot of interference from her conscious mind. She kept surfacing, questioning, checking on herself. That happens, and working with it is part of the job. Even so, and even though I had only studied with Dolores two years earlier, that session still stands out as one of the most remarkable I have ever guided. I think that is because of what came through, not because of anything I did.
Wish for the Highest Intention
During the Higher Self dialogue I asked whether it was appropriate to continue calling for the most fitting presence rather than deciding in advance whether a guide, a collective, or something else should appear.
The answer I received was simple.
“If you wish for the highest intention, we will be there.”
That sentence stayed with me.
It gave me a better way to hold spiritual material in a session. I do not want to put words into anyone's experience. I do not want to direct a client toward a belief that does not belong to them. I want to create enough safety and space for the person to discover what is meaningful and useful in their own inner experience.
Sometimes that may be a memory. Sometimes it may be a past life, an image, a feeling, a guide, a question, or simply a quiet sense of knowing. The form is less important than the person's own experience of it.
The Name I Was Not Expecting
The next morning I returned to a practice that had already become important to me, self hypnosis.
I got quiet, closed my eyes, and invited the Masters of Light to be present. Then a different phrase appeared in my mind, Emissaries of Light.
That surprised me because it was not the name I had expected. In my own experience, that mattered. If I had simply heard the phrase I was already thinking about, it would have been easy to dismiss it as repetition. But Emissaries of Light felt like new information.
Later, in a quiet exploration with someone close to me, I asked about the two names. The understanding I received was that they referred to the same presence, with some preferring the name Masters of Light and others the name Emissaries of Light.
I do not offer that as a fact anyone else must accept. I offer it as the language of an experience that became meaningful in my own life.
She Thought She Had Made It Up
A month or so after the session she came to a gathering at my hypnosis teacher's office.
She told me she thought she had made the whole thing up.
I was standing there talking about my own experience with the Masters of Light and what it had opened up for me, when a friend of hers who had been listening turned to her and said, “He is getting more out of your session than you are.”
That stopped both of us.
The three of us went into another room. I got quiet and called them in. She felt them. Whatever doubt she had walked in with did not survive that room.
I think about that evening more than almost anything else from those years. Doubt is a normal response to an experience like hers. Most people have it, and there is nothing wrong with having it. What she needed was not an argument from me. She needed to feel it again herself, without a session around it, in an ordinary room on an ordinary night.
She has since passed. My wife connected with her afterward, and what came through was that she was tired and ready to go, and that she was grateful for the help releasing her fear of dying. I still listen to her music sometimes. There was so much emotion in it. She was an amazing woman.
Guidance and Assistance
In my personal spiritual understanding, they may offer guidance and assistance when invited. That is how I hold the experience.
A person may understand inner guidance as the Higher Self, spirit, intuition, prayer, a collective presence, the unconscious mind, or something else entirely. I do not require clients to use my vocabulary. What matters is creating a safe, respectful space where they can listen to their own inner knowing.
What Changed in My Work
The greatest influence was not a new technique. It was a new attitude.
I became more careful about leading a session. Instead of deciding in advance what a client should encounter, I learned to make room for what may naturally emerge. That can mean a memory, an image, an emotion, a past life, a question, or a deeper sense of calm.
I also became more comfortable with not knowing.
As a practitioner it can be tempting to want an explanation or a clear answer. But some of the most meaningful moments in hypnosis and spiritual exploration happen when we stop trying to force the next step.
We get quiet. We set an intention. We listen.
A Flow of Easiness
One phrase that stayed with me from those early experiences was this.
“Life should be easy. Life should be a flow of easiness.”
I do not think that means life never has difficulty. We all know it does.
For me it means we do not have to make every inner question into a struggle. We can approach ourselves with more patience. We can allow insight to arrive rather than chase it. We can be open to guidance without giving away our own discernment.
That has become part of the way I work with clients and part of the way I try to live.
The Role of Inner Guidance
Some clients naturally connect with guides or a deeper spiritual perspective. Others do not use that language at all. Both are completely fine.
My role is not to tell anyone what they are supposed to believe. My role is to support their process, ask thoughtful questions, and help them stay present with what they are experiencing.
Before I invite the Higher Self forward, I usually pause and say this intention three times.

For me this is not a demand or a promise about what will happen. It is a way of opening the session with humility, clarity, and respect for the person's own process.
That leaves room for the person's own experience. It also honors the possibility that wisdom may arrive in a form we did not expect.
A Personal Influence, Not a Doctrine
The Masters of Light and Emissaries of Light are part of my personal spiritual story. They are not a doctrine, a required belief, or a method I ask clients to accept.
I include this page in Teachers and Influences because it represents a genuine turning point in my work. It taught me humility. It taught me to listen. It taught me to make room for the unknown.
And, perhaps most importantly, it reminded me that the deepest answers are not something I can give to another person.
They are something each person has to discover from within.
